Want your own GTA V roleplay server? With FiveM it’s faster than you might think. This guide walks through the whole process from license to first connection.
1. Get a license key
Every FiveM server needs a license key from the Cfx.re portal. Sign in with your Cfx.re account, create a new key and enter your server’s IP (you’ll find it in the control panel).
Slot count depends on your license – servers above 48 players require a Cfx.re subscription (Element Club) and OneSync enabled.
2. Pick a plan
A smaller plan is enough for testing and development. For a community RP server we recommend at least 8 GB of RAM – frameworks, MLOs and hundreds of scripts add up. See the FiveM hosting plans.
3. Launch txAdmin
txAdmin is the official web interface for managing a FiveM server. It comes pre-installed – start the server in the control panel, open the txAdmin link and go through the setup wizard.
4. Choose a framework
txAdmin can install a server from recipes. The most common choices:
- ESX Legacy – the most widespread framework with a huge number of ready-made scripts.
- QBCore – a modern framework with a big community.
- Qbox – the successor to QBCore, focused on performance and clean code.
In our control panel each of them is also available as a one-click install, including a ready database.
5. Database
Frameworks need a MySQL/MariaDB database. It’s included in your plan – find the credentials in the Databases section of the panel and paste them into server.cfg (the connection string for oxmysql).
set mysql_connection_string "mysql://user:password@host/database?charset=utf8mb4"
6. Configure server.cfg
The basics worth editing:
sv_hostname– the server name in the list.sets tags– tags for search.sv_maxclients– maximum players (per your license).sv_licenseKey– your license key.
7. Connect
Start the server, press F8 in the FiveM client and type connect your-address. Done – you’re on your own server!
Tips for a stable RP server
- Watch resmon – the
resmoncommand in the client shows which scripts load the server. - Don’t overdo MLOs and streamed assets – they lengthen loading and use memory.
- Back up the database – it’s backed up automatically with us, but take a manual backup before big changes.
- Update artifacts – one click in the control panel.
Ready? Pick a FiveM plan – txAdmin, a database and attack protection are included.
